Ads Get Second Straight over Monsters
Cleveland, OH— The Admirals scored three goals in the third period to defeat the Cleveland Monsters Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena.
Milwaukee won its second straight game. It’s Milwaukee’s first winning streak since Nov. 22 & Nov. 24 with wins over Cleveland and Chicago, respectively. The Admirals finished the night 3-for-7 on the power play.
Milwaukee scored the winner after a Cleveland icing violation. Bobby Butler corralled the puck after Trevor Smith won a faceoff in the Cleveland zone. Butler shot quickly from the left circle and the puck floated over the right shoulder of Cleveland goalie Ivan Kulbakov at 11:54 of the third period. It was Butler’s 11th goal of the season.
Ads defenseman Trevor Murphy added a power play goal at 17:14 of the third period. Murphy received a pass in the right circle from Alex Carrier and hammered a slap shot between the legs of the goalie for his third goal of the season. Carrier and Mark Zengerle recorded the helpers.
The game started in exciting fashion for the home team. The Monsters needed only :08 to score the first goal of the game. Hayden Hodgson ripped a shot from the right circle past Anders Lindback for his second goal of the season. At the same time, Ads forward P-C Labrie and Cleveland’s Brett Gallant were engaged in a fight near the blue line.
Milwaukee tied the game with a power play goal at 7:13 of the first period. Monsters goalie Kulbakov tried to clear the puck but it hit a seam in the glass and died in the right circle where Ads forward Trevor Smith snapped it into the net for his fifth goal of the season. The goal, Smith’s fourth on the power play, was unassisted.
The Ads scored another power play goal to claim the lead at 14:04 of the first frame. Mark Zengerle moved the puck to the left post for Frederick Gaudreau. Gaudreau slid a no-look backhand pass to the front of the net and Anthony Richard poked the puck into the goal for his sixth goal of the season. It was his first career power play marker.
Cleveland tied the game with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 9:47 of the second period. Dean Kukan’s slap shot from the left circle eluded Lindback’s glove for his first goal of the season.
The Monsters took the lead with a shorthanded goal with 7.2 seconds remaining in the second period. Sonny Milano chased a loose puck at center ice and raced into the Admirals zone. He was slashed going to the net and never got the shot off, but did feed defenseman John Ramage at the right circle. Ramage slapped the puck off the left post and into the net.
Milwaukee tied the game early in the third period. Fred Allard was able to hold the right point after a Monsters clearing attempt. Allard sidestepped a defender and skated to the right circle. He then snapped a shot over the glove of the goalie at 1:56 of the frame for his second goal of the season.
The Admirals next home game is Wed., Dec. 27 against Chicago at Panther Arena.
