Brookfield Edges Germantown 3-2
Senior forward Patrick O’Brien broke a 2-2 tie with a third period goal as the Brookfield Stars topped the Germantown Ice Bears 3-2 in the second game of the Admirals Cup Friday morning at Wilson Park.
Germantown spent much of the first period on the power-play, but the score was tied at one after the first frame. Brookfield got the game’s first tally off a wrister from the right dot by O’Brien at the 12:11 mark. However, the Ice Bears’ Ben Lena knotted the score with just 59 seconds to play in the opening period.
Brookfield reclaimed the lead at 9:48 of the second when Zak Pipers sent a tape-to-tape pass on a 2-on-1 to Mason Kollakowsky, who beat Germantown goalie Zac Gazzana. The Ice Bears responded again as Woody Fahler pounced on a loose puck in the crease to knot the score at two.
O’Brien earned his second goal of the game when scored top-shelf while battling a Germantown defenseman at the 5:22 mark of the third period, in what would turn out to be the game-winning goal.
Germantown went on the power-play with three minutes left in the contest and then had another 26 seconds of 6-on-5 after they pulled their goalie, but they couldn’t come up with the equalizer.
Brookfield advances to the second round where they will face number one seeded Marquette at 11 am on Monday at Wilson Park. Germantown will play Greendale Ice Force in their next contest at the Bradley Center on Monday afternoon.
