WNS Wins Low-Scoring Affair vs. Arrowhead
In the lowest scoring game of the day, the WNS Storm defeated the Hartland Arrowhead Warhawks 2-1 in the first round of the Admirals Cup, presented by Bradley Corporation. WNS is a team composed of players from Whitefish Bay, Nicolet, and Shorewood.
As a portent of things to come, scoring was at a premium during the first period as WNS netminder Sean Leahy and Arrowhead goalie Tim Routes were at the top of their games. The Storm scored the frame’s only goal when Thomas Aiken tallied a power-play marker with 1:43 to play in the opening stanza.
The second period was a repeat of the first as WNS got the period’s only goal, again on the power-play, as Nick Sullivan lit the lamp at 13:08 and the Storm had a 2-0 lead after two.
Arrowhead halved the WNS lead when senior forward Garrett Opay scored an unassisted goal at the 6:05 mark of the third period, but that is all the Warhawks could manage the rest of the way as the Storm became the only lower seed to win in day one.
WNS now heads to the second round and will play Cedarburg on Monday morning at 11 am at Wilson Park, while Arrowhead will square off against Kettle Moraine at 2:46 on Monday at the Bradley Center.
