Arrowhead Captures the Ads Cup
Milwaukee, WI--Hartland Arrowhead defensemen Matt Keranen put in the game-winning goal just 55 seconds into the third period to lead the Warhawks to a 3-2 victory in the Admirals Cup Final at the BMO Harris Bradley Center Friday afternoon.
This is the third Admirals Cup Championship for Arrowhead and their first since 2008.
The first period was fast-paced and erratic as both teams got used to the run of play. Both Arrowhead’s goalie Trevor Macey, and Cedarburg’s goalie Tyler Jansen, made multiple key saves to keep their teams even.
The defensive battle continued until Arrowhead Forward Colin Nowicki sniped a shot past Jansen at 16:40. Nowicki intercepted a pass at Cedarburg’s blue line and took control of the play as he sliced past a defender and sent a wrister passed the glove of Jansen and into the back of the net.
In the second period the two teams exchanged goals. The first goal was scored by Arrowhead’s Sam Dvorak at 5:21. Jake Miller slashed passed two Cedarburg defenders and passed the puck across the face of the goal and found Dvorak who pushed it into the upper 90 of the net.
Down 2-0 Cedarburg rallied in the final seconds of the period as Nick Martin tipped in a shot off a rebound from a Tyler Fisher shot. The goal came with just 37 seconds left in the frame.
Again in the third period the teams went blow-for-blow as Cedarburg scored early to tie it at two, only to have Arrowhead score seconds later in what turned out to be the game winning goal.Cedarburg’s Tyler Fisher stole a pass and went at Arrowhead’s Macey squeezing the puck between the stick and post 39 seconds into the period.
However, just 16 seconds later Keranen slipped a shot passed Jansen during a scrum in front of the net to put the Warhawks up for good.
Although Cedarburg lost Tyler Jansen put in a Herculean effort as he made 33 saves and stifled multiple breakaway opportunities and odd-man advantages for Arrowhead.
