Marquette, USM Meet in Showdown Finals
Milwaukee, WI—University School of Milwaukee topped Cedarburg and Marquette University High School defeated Hartland Arrowhead to advance to the finals of the Milwaukee Admirals High School Hockey Showdown, presented by Bradley Corporation. The two schools will meet in the championship game at 2:46 Wednesday afternoon at the Bradley Center.
University School earned their spot in the finals with a hard fought 3-2 win over the Bulldogs. Cedarburg led the contest 2-1 entering the third period, but University School tied the game with a goal by Simon Leahy and then took their only lead of the game at 10:40 of the third when defenseman Zach Hafeman lit the lamp.
In the other semifinal, Marquette High fell behind 1-0 just 11 seconds into the game, but score the games final four goals to advance. Senior forward Joe Washcovick tallied a pair of markers to pace the Hilltoppers, while Brady Vassar picked up the lone goal for Arrowhead.
Cedarburg and Arrowhead will meet for third place on Wednesday afternoon at 12:06 pm at the Bradley Center.
In other action in the showdown today, the WNS Storm scored four goals in the second period and then Joe Aiken scored the game-winner in OT to lead them past Germantown 5-4. Germantown’s Austin Haga scored a hat-trick in the losing effort.
Also, Mequon Homestead picked up a 6-3 victory over Kenosha. The game was tied at three until late in the second when Homestead’s Nate Reuthier scored the game-winner with just 2:56 to play in the middle frame. Peter Schmitz posted two goals in the third for Mequon, while Kenosha was led by forward Chad Battisfore, who had a two goals and n assist.
Tomorrow at Wilson Park in the consolation bracket Homestead will take on WNS, while Kenosha battles Germantown.
All games in the Admirals High School Hockey Showdown are free and open to the public. Following the Championship Game, the Admirals will battle the Houston Aeros at 7:00 pm
