Admirals Fly by Aeros
Milwaukee, WI--In their last home appearance at the Bradley Center for the year 2010, the Milwaukee Admirals were able to hold off the Houston Aeros by a final score of 3-2 Wednesday night and improve their record to 19-10-2-4.
Despite being outshot 35-19 by Houston, Milwaukee got back-to-back goals from Matt Halischuk and Blake Geoffrion on their first two shots of the third period, to turn a 1-1 game into a 3-1 lead.
Scoring for the Admirals started off less than halfway through the opening frame as Ryan Thang blasted home a slap shot at 9:18 of the first period. Off of a faceoff, Halischuk brought the puck up the left side of the ice, and before getting sandwiched between defenders. He left the puck back for a trailing Thang who sent a one-timer in the back of the net from the left circle. Jamie Lundmark picked up an assist on the goal as well.
The Aeros were able to get on the board in the first as well on an unassisted goal from Nate Prosser at 16:17 to tie up the score at 1-1.
Mark Dekanich turned away 14 Houston shots in the second period, to help keep Milwaukee in the game heading into the third.
Halischuk opened up the scoring 1:35 into the third period as he was able to knock in a rebound off a Lundmark blast from the right point. Lundmark let one rip and got Aeros goaltender Anton Khudobin to commit to the left, and Halischuk was there backside to take the rebound off of the boards and knock it into the open net. Thang earned an assist on the goal, giving himself a multi-point night.
Before Admirals fans had time to catch their breath, Geoffrion was able to rocket a slap shot past Khudobin for another goal just 17 seconds later. After the ensuing faceoff, Brett Palin slid the puck up the ice to Mark Santorelli, who got the puck at the near boards and fed Geoffrion at the high slot where he sent the eventual game-winner by Khudobin.
The Aeros made things interesting, however, and made the score 3-2 as they snuck one past Dekanich for a power play goal by Cody Almond, assisted by Maxium Noreau and Chad Rau at 3:00 in the third.
Dekanich and the Admirals defense would prove strong the rest of the way and the Ads held on for the win as Halischuk (1g-1a), Thang (1g-1a), and Lundmark (2a) all had a multiple point nights for the Ads helping to improve their
Milwaukee rallied around Dekanich who was busy in the net as he turned away 35 Houston shots and picked up his thirteenth win of the season (13-4).
The Admirals look to see fans back at the Bradley Center for their first contest of the New Year as they square off with the San Antonio Rampage on Sunday January 2. The first 2,500 kids through the gates will receive an Admirals poster courtesy of Children’s Hospital.
