Admirals fall to the Stars

Milwaukee, WI - The Admirals fired 41 shots on goal, but Texas Stars goalie Jack Campbell was up to the task, making 38 saves as the Ads fell to the Stars 4-3 Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

The Admirals are now clinging onto 7th place in the conference as they have lost six of their last seven games.

The Stars were first to light the lamp at 10:27 of the first period. Greg Rallo got his 21st of the year, taking advantage of a five on three power-play after Milwaukee penalties from Triston Grant and Austin Watson. The Stars  set up their offense in the Admirals zone and Rollo blasted a low one timer from Travis Morin that slipped under the right pad of Magnus Hellberg.

Milwaukee youngster Kevin Fiala tied the game at 14:44 of the first with a beautiful individual effort to beat Texas defender Jamie Oleksiak and fire a wrister over Campbell's right shoulder for a highlight reel goal.

Less than a minute later however, Devin Shore netted his first of the season after gathering a big rebound and sliding one past a screened Hellberg.

The Stars extended their lead early in the second period after a bouncing puck found the stick of Texas captain Maxime Fortunus at the blue line. Fortunus' heavy slapper went untouched through a sea of traffic and past the glove of Hellberg to give Texas a 3-1 lead.

Despite brilliant goaltending from Campbell throughout the third period, Austin Watson was able to squeeze one through the five hole of Campbell with Hellberg on the bench to cut the lead in half at 18:08 of the third.

It looked like all was lost when with Scott Glennie scored an empty netter in the final minute for the Stars. However, Mark Van Guilder batted a backhand rebound past Campbell with 43 seconds remaining in the game to give the Admirals a fighting chance. A flurry of opportunities for the Admirals were all turned away by Campbell in the final seconds to end an exciting game.

The Admirals are desperate to get some more wins under their belt before playoff time. They look to get the W's started Wednesday night against San Antonio at the BMO Harris Bradley Center at 7 pm.
