3-1 Cedarburg over Germantown
Milwaukee, WI – In day two of action in the Admirals Cub presented by the Bradley Corp, the Germantown Icebears took on a formidable opponent in the Cebarburg Bulldogs in game one at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. In a thrilling and evenly matched game, Cedarburg was able to mount a comeback win over Germantown.
Forward Trevor Herzberg got things started for the Icebears midway through the first period when he made a nice individual effort to get a shot on net, track down his own rebound and bury it past Cedarburg goaltender Matt McCoy.
It wasn’t until the midway point of the second period that Cedarburg forward Drew Decker knotted the game with a hard wrister over the left shoulder of Germantown Goaltender Ben Peterson , getting help from Evan Gabel on the assist. Less than three minutes later it was Gabel netting another goal for the Bulldogs as he was able to track a bouncing puck in front of the net and find a way to get it over the goal line giving his team a 2-1 lead heading to the locker room after two periods of play.
Cedarburg was finished the come from behind win with stellar play from goaltender Matt McCoy throughout the third period. The final dagger came with just three seconds left when Cedarburg senior Jesse Ward put in an empty netter to seal the 3-1 victory for Cebarburg.
The Bulldogs and Icebears continue tournament play Monday at the Mullett Center as Cedarburg takes on WNS at 9am and Germantown looks to bounce back against New Trier at 1pm.
