Admirals Fall to Wild

Des Moines, IA--The Iowa Wild scored three power play goals en route to a 6-1 win over the Admirals Friday night at the Wells Fargo Arena.

The loss was the first-ever in regulation for Milwaukee since the Wild joined the AHL in the 2013-14 season. The Ads entered the game with a 10-0-2-1 record at Wells Fargo Arena.

Goalie Jonas Gunnarsson lost his Admirals debut. Gunnarsson, who signed with Nashville on June 1, recorded 25 saves.

The Admirals trailed 6-0 when they finally got on the board with a shorthanded goal at 16:49 of the third period. Forward Adam Payerl outmuscled an Iowa defender for the puck in Iowa’s right corner. Payerl skated behind the Wild net then fed defenseman Adam Pardy who shot the puck into the net for his first goal in his first game with Milwaukee.

Milwaukee outshot the Wild 14-5 in the first period but Iowa scored the first goal of the game at 15:23 of that frame. Tyler Graovac received a drop pass from Mario Lucia and slipped the puck through the legs of Gunnarsson for the lead.

The Wild used a power play marker to take a 2-0 lead at 5:43 of the second period. Jordan Schroeder’s quick shot from the slot beat Gunnarsson to his glove side.

Iowa made it 3-0 at 16:16 of the second period when Colton Beck deflected a Gustav Olofsson shot into the net for his first goal of the season.

Iowa put the game out of reach with three goals in a 1:33 span of the third period. Schroeder scored his second of the game at 3:17, Graovac scored a 5-on-3 goal at 4:33 and Christoph Bertschy scored a power play goal at 4:50.

The Ads commence their home schedule on Saturday, October 29 at 6 pm when they host the Wild at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
