Milwaukee, WI – The Admirals secured a hard-fought win against the Texas Stars, capitalizing on key opportunities and another strong performance from goaltender Matt Murray, who stopped 36 shots to earn his 13th win of the season.
The win extended their point streak to five games (4-0-1) and pulled them to within a point of the Stars for second place in the Central.
Scott Reedy opened the scoring early in the second period after Ryan Ufko intercepted an attempted clearance on the power play and fired a shot from the point. Reedy got a piece of it in front, deflecting the puck past goaltender Magnus Hellberg to make it 1-0.
Not long after, Kyle Marino netted his fourth goal of the season. Luke Prokop’s shot from the blue line was blocked by Hellberg, but the rebound popped out to an open Marino on the backdoor. He settled the puck and buried it to extend the lead to 2-0.
Texas responded on the penalty kill, cutting the deficit to one with a shorthanded breakaway goal from Kole Lind, making it 2-1 heading into the third.
Despite opportunities on both sides, the third period was scoreless, with Milwaukee’s defense and Murray holding off Texas’ late offensive push to secure the win.
Murray was outstanding in net once again allowing one or fewer goals for the third time in his past four starts and the 10th time this season.
The Admirals look to finish this five-game homestand strong this Friday, January 31, as they host the Manitoba Moose at 7:00 PM.
