Milwaukee, WI— Fedor Svechkov netted a goal to pull the Admirals back within striking distance with just over two minutes to go in the game, but Milwaukee ultimately fell just short in a 4-3 loss to the Chicago Wolves in a Herbert’s Best School Day Game on Tuesday morning at historic Panther Arena.
The loss brings the Admirals to 2-1-1-0 in their last four games and now look ahead to the final three contests in their key six-game homestead.
The Wolves grabbed an early lead when Juuso Valimaki potted his fifth goal of the season at 8:21 in the first period.
Reid Schaefer answered for the Admirals with a shorthanded goal at 8:58 of the first period, extending his red-hot streak to nine goals in his last nine games. After a crisp feed from Svechkov, Schaefer’s initial shot was deflected, but he stayed with the play, collected his own rebound, and redirected it off Wolves defender Felix Unger Sorum to complete the shorthanded finish.
The Wolves gained a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period with a behind the net pass from Ryan Suzuki to Bradley Nadeau at the bottom of the far circle for a goal at 18:35.
After two unsuccessful power plays in the second period, Ryder Rolston evened the score with 4:11 left. Rolston started on a breakaway and fired a shot that was initially turned aside, but he stayed with it, and slipped it pass Wolves goaltender Cayden Primeau.
However, Wolves center Nikita Pavlychev scored with 1:22 left in the second to take a one goal lead, notching his second point of the game and Chicago pushed their lead to two at the beginning of the third when Ronan Seeley snapped a wrister past the glove of Admirals goaltender Matt Murray.
With just 2:22 left in the third, Svechkov brought the Admirals within one. After taking possession in the neutral zone, Schaefer delivered a cross-ice feed to Svechkov, who cut into the slot and fired a wrister under the right arm of Primeau to cut the deficit to.
The Ads appeared to have tied the score at four when David Edstrom deflected a shot in the goal from Jordan Oesterle, but the goal was ultimately waved off after officials determined it was direct in with a kicking motion.
The Admirals are back at home this weekend as they host the San Jose Barracuda both Friday night at 7 pm and Saturday night at 6 pm.
