Cedar Park, TX— Texas forward Antonio Stranges scored with :46 remaining in the contest to lift the Texas Stars to a 4-3 win over the Admirals Saturday at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
The Admirals fell to 1-3-0-0 on their five-game road trip.
The Stars never had a lead in the game until the Stranges goal. Arttu Hyry rushed into the zone from the left wing. He got to the goal line and backhanded a pass toward the slot. Stranges snapped the puck into the goal with 46.2 seconds left on the clock. Stranges’ goal capped a three-goal third period for Texas.
Milwaukee scored the only goal of the first period. Entering the Stars zone on the right wing, Alex Campbell sent a pass to the left wing boards. It was out-of-reach for defenseman Kevin Gravel, but he picked up the carom off the wall and slapped the puck towards the net. It bounced into the goal off the stick of Cal O’Reilly, who was camped at the right post. O’Reilly’s second goal of the season was scored at 16:24 of the first frame.
The Stars tied the game at 15:24 of the second period. Justin Ertel was able to slap a bouncing puck into the net for his first career American Hockey League goal.
Just :41 later, however, the Ads reclaimed the lead. O’Reilly skated around the Texas net. With Ryder Rolston set up in the crease, O’Reilly slid a pass to Joakim Kemell, who was just behind Rolston. Kemell snapped the puck high into the goal of this ninth marker of the year at 16:01 of the second stanza. O’Reilly and Rolston were awarded assists.
The Stars tied the game when Hyry scored a power play goal at 3:54 of the third period, but the Admirals reclaimed the advantage soon thereafter. Ondrej Pavel raced into the offensive zone and knocked the puck to the middle of the blue line. Defenseman Marc Del Gaizo slapped the puck into the net for his third goal of the season at 5:47 of the third period.
The Stars tied the score again when Alex Petrovic’s shot from the left circle deflected off a defender into the net at 12:47 of the third.
Both teams finished with 25 shots on goal.
Milwaukee concludes its five-game road trip Sun., Jan. 19 at Texas. The Admirals return home to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena Wed., Jan. 22 to host Rockford.
