Milwaukee, WI—Egor Afanasyev scored the Admirals lone goal as they kicked off a season-long seven-game homestand with a 4-1 loss to the Colorado Eagles on Saturday night at Panther Arena.
The loss was just the third in regulation for the Admirals over their past 19 games (13-3-1-2).
The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 10:26 of the first period when Ryan Wagner scored on the rebound of a Andreas Wingerli shot.
However, just 32 seconds later the Ads leveled the score as Afanasyev potted his 8th goal of the season. The play started when defenseman Jeremy Davies drove the middle against into the Colorado zone before leaving a drop pass for Afanasyev, who ripped a snapper over the left shoulder of Eagles’ goalie Justus Annunen.
Kiefer Sherwood, the brother of Admirals forward Kole Sherwood, broke the tie with a power-play marker at 5:20 to go in the second period on one-timer from the left dot.
Colorado would get third period goals from Mikhail Maltsev at 7:34 and Jayson Megna with 3:44 to left in the game to seal the victory.
Annunen earned the win in net for the Eagles with 25 saves, while Connor Ingram stopped 21, including numerous breakaways, but suffered the loss for Milwaukee.
The Admirals won’t have to wait long for revenge as the two teams get right back at it on Sunday afternoon when they face-off at 3 pm from Panther Arena.
