Ads Comeback Falls Short

Goalie Dereck Baribeau stopped 35 shots to lead the Iowa Wild to a 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Admirals are now winless in its last four games (0-3-1-0).

Mitch McLain led the offense for the Admirals. Playing against his former team, McLain scored a pair of power play goals and assisted on the other Admirals goal.

After a scoreless first period, Milwaukee began the second frame with a power play. However, Iowa was the team scoring the goal as Connor Dewar lifted a backhander into the net to finish a breakaway at :26 of the second.

The Wild made it 2-0 with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 6:26 of the second period. Adam Beckman’s shot from the left circle slipped into the goal.

Defenseman Joe Hicketts scored a 4-on-3 power play goal at 7:59 of the second stanza to give Iowa a 3-0 lead.

Milwaukee found its way on the scoreboard at 17:20 of the second period. McLain deflected a point shot from David Farrance into the net for his third goal of the season and his first career power play goal. Farrance and Cody Glass had the assists. The goal snapped a goalless drought of 129:51 for the Admirals.

McLain scored his second of the game when he tapped a pass from Matt Luff at the right post at 11:08 of the third period. McLain’s fourth goal of the year was another power play marker and was assisted by Luff and Farrance.

The Wild scored the game-winner at 13:08 of the third period when Kyle Rau jammed the puck through the legs of Admirals goalie Connor Ingram.

Milwaukee closed the scoring when Luff whipped a wrister from the left circle off the right post and in for his third goal of the season at 14:51 of the third frame. Matt Tennyson and McLain recorded the helpers.

The Admirals pulled Ingram with 2:24 to play and had several chances, but were unable to finish the comeback.

Ingram stopped 26 shots in the loss.

The Admirals will travel to Winnipeg for a game Thurs., Nov. 18 against the Manitoba Moose. Milwaukee’s next home game is Wed., Nov. 24 against the Grand Rapids Griffins at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
