Goalie Connor Ingram stopped 28 shots and defenseman Jeremy Davies recorded four assists to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 6-2 win over the Manitoba Moose Wednesday at Canada Life Centre.
Milwaukee extended its road points streak to 12 games (9-0-1-2). Milwaukee hasn’t lost in regulation on the road since Jan. 5 at Grand Rapids.
The Admirals six goals came on just 19 shots. Six different Admirals scored and the Ads finished 3-for-4 on the power play.
The Moose claimed a 1-0 lead at 2:00 of the first period. Bobby Lynch slid a backhander from the left circle off of Admirals goalie Connor Ingram’s right arm into the goal to give Manitoba the advantage. It was the seventh straight game the Ads opponent scored the first goal.
Milwaukee tied the game at 17:48 of the first period. The Admirals cycled the puck along the right wing boards. Zach Solow gave the puck to Matt Tennyson. Tennyson then moved the puck to Jimmy Huntington, who skated from the right wing boards into the slot and sent a wrist shot into the goal, through traffic, for his first as a member of the Admirals. Huntington had scored six goals earlier this season with the Syracuse Crunch.
The Admirals took the lead with a pair of power play goals in the second period. The first came at 4:27. Cody Glass won the face-off in the right circle to Davies at the point. Davies skated to the middle of the blue line and sent a pass to Glass at the right circle. Glass shot the puck over the left hand of the goalie for his 10th goal of the season. It was his fourth power play marker. Davies recorded the lone assist.
The Ads took a 3-1 lead when Mitch McLain slammed a rebound from the front of the goal into the cage at 13:37 of the second stanza for his 13th goal of the season. Graham Knott gave the puck to Davies. Davies shot from the left circle was stopped but McLain, unchecked at the goal mouth, pounded in the rebound past the right leg of Manitoba’s netminder for his third power play goal. McLain’s goal proved to be the game-winner. It was his third game-winning goal of the season.
In the third period, Admirals forward Cole Smith scored a highlight reel goal as he skated past two defenders in the Admirals zone and sped up the middle of the ice. He deked past Manitoba defenseman Simon Lundmark and fought through a stick-check from Evan Pole to flip a backhander into the goal for his 11th marker of the year. Davies and Huntington assisted on the tally.
Manitoba’s Cole Maier scored a power play goal at 12:27 of the third period to make the score 4-2 in the Ads favor.
The Ads added another power play goal at 14:42 when Rocco Grimaldi fired a shot from the right circle into the net for his 24th goal of the season (seventh on the power play). Matt Donovan and Tommy Novak were awarded the assists on the goal.
Solow scored his third of the year at 15:30 when he deflected a Huntington shot into the net to make the score 6-2 in favor of Milwaukee. Huntington and Davies assisted on the goal.
Ingram moved into a tie for the American Hockey League lead in wins with his 21st of the season.
