Ads Tally Point in OT

Jeff Malott scored on a breakaway in overtime to give the Manitoba Moose a 403 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday at Canada Life Centre.

 

The loss spoiled a furious comeback by the Admirals, as Milwaukee scored three times in the third period to take a 3-2 edge in a game they were outshot 45-26. Still, the Admirals gained a point in the standings.

 

Malott blocked a pass in the Moose zone and took off on a breakaway, His shot from between the circles found the back of the net to snap Manitoba’s three-game losing streak.

Despite outshooting Milwaukee 22-3 in the first period alone, the Moose found the back of the net just once. Manitoba scored the only goal of the first period when Leon Gawanke ripped a shot from the left circle into the net at 6:37 of the initial frame.

The Moose claimed a 2-0 lead at 12:24 of the second period. Cole Maier’s shot from the left wing circle found the back of the net to give the Moose the two-goal cushion.

The Admirals got on the board with a power play goal at 6:41. Rocco Grimaldi fed a pass from the left corner to Cole Smith at the left circle. Smith’s shot was stopped, but Cole Schneider backhanded the rebound into the net for his 19th goal of the season (seventh on the power play). Grimaldi and Smith had the assists.

Milwaukee tied the game at 8:20 of the third frame when Schneider outwrestled Gawanke for a puck and led a 2-on-oh with Cody Glass, Schneider got near the net on the left wing and slid a pass to Glass on the right for a tap-in. The goal was Glass’ ninth of the season.

The Ads took the lead at 13:35 when Jeremy Davies scored his second of the season. Davies slid from the right point to the slot and received a pass from Tommy Novak for the shot and a goal. Grimaldi also recorded an assist on the go-ahead marker.

The Moose tied the game with a power play goal at 18:05 when Dean Stewart slapped a rebound from the left circle into an open goal for his first tally in the American Hockey League.

Admirals goalie Connor Ingram stopped 41 shots in the overtime loss.

The Admirals and Moose play again in Winnipeg on Mon., Feb. 21 and Wed., Feb. 23. The Admirals return home Sat., Feb. 26 to host the Colorado Eagles at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
