Milwaukee, WI— Austin Roest scores his first career AHL goal, but the Admirals fall short in a 3-1 loss to the San Jose Barracuda on Saturday night at historic Panther Arena.
Despite an offensive barrage to start the game for the Admirals, outshooting San Jose 9-1, it was the Barracuda who got on the board first. Nearly halfway through the opening period, with the zone controlled, Noah Beck found the red-hot Quentin Musty as he snuck one past Matt Murray for his third goal on the weekend.
With the period winding down, Milwaukee found themselves with a two-man advantage and were able to convert on the opportunity. While the puck was pinballing around in front of the net it was Roest that was there to slam it home and tie the game on the brink of the first intermission.
Aside from a handful of chippy post-whistle scrums, the second period was largely uneventful, leading to a decisive third period.
The Admirals came out strong in the third period, but were eventually stymied by the Barracuda as they largely took control of the game’s pace, effectively holding the puck in the offensive zone. Eventually, Kasper Halttunen found the back of the net for the Barracuda with a snipe from between the circles to give San Jose a 2-1 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish.
San Jose’s Patrick Giles sealed the game when he lofted a shot from the neutral zone into an empty Milwaukee net to finalize the score at 3-1.
The Admirals return to Panther Arena on Wednesday, March 11th for the final of their six game homestand. The game against the Rockford IceHogs will begin at 7pm.
